Ourschool’s teachers and studentsattendedthefifth Global Conference of Catalytic Science and Technology
The fifth Global Conference of Catalytic Science and Technology themed with “From Creativity to Industry”was held in Qingdao International Convention and Exhibition Center hosted by Foreign Expert Information Research Center of the State and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. More than 60 teachers and students attended the conference.
At the opening ceremony, Ms. Luan Xin, vice mayor of Qingdao gave a speech. Moreover, Prof. Edward C.Prescott from Arizona State University,a Nobel Prize winner in Economic Sciences and Prof. Christopher A. Pissarides gave key note speeches.
In the afternoon of the opening ceremony, the Fifth Global Catalytic Technology Conference began directed by Professor Su Baolian from the Moores University in Belgium. Many well-known scholars gave their speeches in the conference, including Professor Brian M.Stoltz from California Institute of Technology, Professor Flora T. T. Ng from University of Waterloo in Canada, Professor Martin G. Banwell from Australian National University, the academician Han Buxing from Chinese Academy of Sciences and Professor Su Baolian from the Moores University in Belgium. The conference held eight sessions according to different fields, including catalytic genome project, catalytic asymmetric synthesis, new catalyst technology and reaction, the application of nano-catalyst and nano-materials in the catalysis, metal catalysis, the best catalyst in the industrialization, environmental catalysis and catalysis engineering. Besides, over 60 forums about hot topics were held and more than 200 scientists and engineers were invited to deliver speeches during the conference. They discussed problems and exchanged ideas, making contribution to the development of the catalytic technology together. Professor Wu Mingbo from the college of chemical engineering in our university delivered his invited speech about Pt or reduced graphene oxide that efficiently catalyzes and converses cellulose to make sorbitol. Also, Professor Wu Mingbo held the session about the application of nano-catalyst and nano-materials in the catalysis together with Professor Garry. Rempel from University of Waterloo. So far, the Global Catalytic Technology Conference has been held for four times. It is one of the largest conventions in the field of catalysis around the world. There are five parallel international conferences held in the same time: the fourth international conference on new energy, the fourth international conference of science and technology environment, the fourth global conference on biofuels, the first global knowledge economy conference and the fourth low-carbon earth summit.
