On June 2th to 4th, the first Chinese university student Chem-E-Car competition was held at Tianjin University. Our school’s UPCar team participated in the competition and won the best design creativity award in the poster competition. The UPCar team consists of 14 undergraduates from chemical engineering and technology, mechanical manufacturing and automation, and materials chemistry. Their tutors are Jin Xin, Ding Chuanqin, Liu Yi, Ning Hui.
Chem-E-Car contest sponsored by the American Institute of chemical engineers organized is an international competition for university students to use chemical engineering skills. Its purpose is to enhance the ability of college students majoring in chemical engineering research and practical innovation, and improve the chemical engineer and chemical engineering in the society's influence and attention. In December 2016, The conference on the establishment of the Chem-E-Car Competition Committee of Chinese university students organized by the China Chemical Institute and the Ministry of education in Chemical Engineering was held, marking the formal competition in China start. The committee is responsible for organizing the Chinese college students Chem-E-Car competition every year. The students from leading universities in 20 chemical disciplines took part in the competition.
The competition includes the poster competition (closed) and chemical vehicles running race competition (open) two links. According to international competition requirements, the teams show how the car is chemically driven, the uniqueness of the car, and environmental and safety factors considered in the design by poster in the poster competition. According to the team's description of the design of the chemical reaction / power source, the originality of the design and the characteristics of the autonomous vehicle, as well as the environmental and safety features, evaluation experts selected the best design creativity award, the best power award and the best security award in the poster competition. According to the conditions provided by the Organizing Committee, the participants are given precise calculations and ingredients for the design and control system, and the car which must be powered by chemical reaction can load a certain weight, and precise control distance in 2 minutes by a chemical reaction in the chemical vehicles running race competition. Each team has a two chance. The length of the closest set distance is the result of the competition, and finally the best performance award is selected.
